Getting to Paris: Best Traps Workout Ever!

Image
Well, friends, we made it to Paris yesterday and we couldn't be happier!  Especially since getting here was way more physically demanding than we had expected, given the fact that we thought the BIKING part was going to be hard... First of all, I have to give a quick shoutout to Boston Logan Airport, because despite the crowds, the lines, and the fact that I originally brought us to the wrong terminal (oops), it was probably one of the most pleasant airport experiences of my life!  Everyone we met was so kind, friendly, and helpful (half because we certainly looked like curiosities in our bike helmets, and half because I went around excitedly telling everyone that we were finally on our honeymoon!) We landed in Charles de Gaulle, sleepily reinforced the tape on our bike boxes (which had been un-taped before our very eyes by a TSA officer), and that's when the real work began:  getting two 50+ lb bike boxes, plus a few other small (but heavy!) panniers with various une...

Here we go!

The last couple of days before the trip have been great fun! We got to spend some time getting to know our awesome new friend, Mary Alice, who will be house sitting for us while we're away, and saying farewell to many friends on Taco Sunday. And since Caitlin had us so well organized (she makes the best lists!) we didn't have a mad dash to the finish line :-) We're all packed and ready to go, and since we had to put both back seats down in The Boss (Caitlin's Subaru Crosstrek), I'm taking the T to the airport and meeting Caitlin there with Delfina. The bike boxes are 49lbs each (just under the 50lb limit), we each have a large pannier with backpack attachment, and a questionably sized "personal item". We may have to play the honeymoon card... (thanks for the tip, Chris!). It's going to be a long couple of days getting to the starting line of our bike adventure! And now it's time for takeoff!!

Introduction / Trip Preparations

Hi, all! As you may already know, Adam and I are spending the whole summer on our belated honeymoon (so belated, in fact, that we will come back home three days before our one-year anniversary...but that's what happens when you wed a few days before the first day of school!).  We decided that we wanted to take a grand adventure, one that would only become more difficult to do down the line as we have added responsibilities in life.  Because I have every summer off (yay teaching!) and Adam has recently quit his job to start his own business, that freed up this summer for us to embark on this grand adventure! So what is this grand adventure?  Well, as you can see from the map at the bottom of this webpage, we will be traveling across Europe:  starting in the south of France, just west of Marseille, ending up in Budapest, Hungary towards the middle of August, and passing through Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and even Liechtenstein on our way!  And ye...

Where are we now?
